january 18-22, 2023
The WITTS Curacao Small Group Trip took place from Wednesday, January 18th through Sunday, January 22nd. Nestled in between Aruba and Bonaire (collectively known as the "Dutch ABCs"), Curacao is an island in the Southern Caribbean known for crystal clear turquoise waters (which is why it has world class scuba diving), beautiful beaches and a lively nightlife. On this trip, a group of just 7 women enjoyed beautiful Curacao while getting in 2.25 hours of MCLE specialty credits over this five day trip. The group visited nearby Klein Curacao by private boat charter, dined at unique eateries, shopped colorful, handmade artisan crafts in Punda and Otrobanda, and lounged on Curacao's stunning white sand beaches. Resort accommodations, private transportation, private tours and most meals were included.
This trip was planned around the National Trial Lawyers Summit, which took place in Miami, Florida from January 23 through 26, 2023. Nearly all flights to Curacao have a layover in Miami, so for those who were also attending NTL's Summit this year, they just tacked this trip on to the front end and booked a multi-city flight (starting destination --> CUR --> MIA --> home).
2.25 hours of MCLE ethics credits were approved for this program. Access the materials HERE.

Arrive in Curacao
Travelers to Curacao will fly into Hato International Airport (CUR), generally stopping in Miami. Flights from Southern California to Curacao arrive in the late afternoon or evening. Attendees should aim to arrive by Wednesday night. A private van service will greet all attendees on arrival and take them to the resort, which is just 10 minutes from the airport. If you arrive early, take the opportunity to get settled into your room at the resort and sip on an umbrella drink until your fellow attendees arrive. There are no events planned for the first day, since many flights arrive at night.
Thursday, January 19
Day Trip to Klein
Don't worry if you're still on West Coast time when you wake up the following morning: while we'll all have an early start to the day, you'll be able to nap on the beach or on the boat as we sail to nearby Klein Curacao. The group will enjoy a private charter to the island, where you'll have lunch, enjoy an open bar, and have an opportunity to either explore the island, lounge on the beach or snorkel with sea turtles. In the late afternoon, we'll sail back to town. Since it's a long day, you can either choose to order room service or break off into smaller groups for dinner at the resort (not included).
Friday, January 20
Beaches + Town
After breakfast at the resort, we'll all load up in a private bus and "beach hop", visiting a few of the best beaches on the island. You'll have the opportunity to snorkel, lay in the sun or explore adjacent caves. As a group, you'll all enjoy a casual lunch at an authentic island eatery, then head back towards "town". The capital of Willemstad is split between two parts: Otrobanda on the west and Punda on the East. We will split off into groups where you can choose to either shop the artisan markets or visit a beach club, then we'll all reconvene in the evening to dine at a restaurant together in Punda.
Saturday, January 21
MCLEs + Beach Dinner
On our last full day together, you'll wake up to share breakfast at the resort, then hear qualified speakers give three hours of ethics MCLE presentations in a private conference room at the resort. The afternoon will consist of "free time" for attendees to do whatever they please: relax at the resort, take cabs into town, or get spa treatment (free time meals and activities not included). Then in the evening we will all enjoy a three-course beach-side farewell dinner together, right on the sand, where we'll watch the sunset together.
Sunday, January 22
Return Home
While the hosted trip officially ends today, the resort will be honoring a reduced group room rate for attendees who wish to add time to their stay, which will include three days before the event and three days after. Attendees are encouraged to stay and experience beautiful Curacao if they have the time. As noted above, this trip was planned around National Trial Lawyers Summit in Miami, which means that attendees who wish to attend that event will simply fly from CUR to MIA on Sunday to be present at the NTL events that begin on Monday morning.
